Sugar Cookies - braisebook

Sugar Cookies

My kids love to make these cookies at Christmas and decorate them.   If you want them to be soft, take them out of the oven right before they appear done.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Gather the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to your desired thickness and cut into shapes.
  7. Place the cut cookies onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
